Description
Yat has some of the most unique and beautiful artifacts obtained only through special events. How can we create a beautiful interface that allows users to admire and share their collected artifacts? I lead the design and UX for this project.

How we built it

Yat is known for its lavish and exciting events, where users can obtain unique artifacts with great value. The downside to owning one of these artifacts was that users could not view which artifacts they currently held. We wanted to create a simple, elegant, and immersive experience that allowed holders of these artifacts to admire and share the items they held.

Exploration & iteration

One of the most essential parts of this project, besides allowing users to explore their collectibles, was doing it in a way that really showcased the beautiful artwork we had created.

In our first exploration, we wanted to work the collectibles into our main interface by creating dedicated tiles for each artifact.

Let's make it bigger

After our first round of explorations, we decided to move away from our main interface and give the artifacts a dedicated page where they could shine. This gave us more room to work with different layout options.

At this point, we were getting closer, but we still felt we could do more to highlight the artwork.

Final designs

I wanted to embrace the artwork as much as possible for our final design, so I created a full-screen experience focused on one piece at a time. This allowed users to experience each artifact in its full glory.

One downside to a full-screen view is that users can't see their entire artifact collection, so I also included a tab that allows users to switch between the full-screen view and a grid view, providing them a choice in their viewing experience.

Mobile designs

I wanted to stick with a similar format for mobile, so I created a full-screen swipeable view similar to TikTok, where you can see your artifact in full view and simply swipe to view the next.

I love creating these types of experiences because they are very immersive and allow us to highlight beautiful artwork.

Challenges & Learnings

Our major challenge was overcoming the "traditional" layout mindset. Falling into trend traps can make designs generic and dull. We aimed to create something bold and unique for this project. Instead of focusing on traditional grid-style layouts, we drew inspiration from video game interfaces, resulting in a more fun, immersive, and unique design.
