The first step we took was analyzing other marketplaces to see how they display information about collectibles and determine what information was most useful.
Below are a few marketplaces we analyzed.
After researching other marketplaces, we took the information we learned and created some early wireframes for the experience. A big part of this project was emphasizing the community behind the asset and surfacing relevant information to the user such as activity from other owners within this collection, similar assets they may be interested in, a list of top holders within this collection, and detailed information about the owner of the asset.
We choose not to include analytical data such as charts and graphs because we wanted this experience to feel interactive and explorative like a video game instead of a data tool that many other products already offer.
Once we had a basic idea of how we wanted to lay this page out, we broke down each module and refined the information we wanted to show on this page.
After a few rounds of exploration, we realized that we were trying to include too many elements on the page and the information about the asset itself was starting to get lost. We decided to completely rethink how we wanted to structure this page.
To solve this, we cut out many of the collection-level modules and focused on the asset itself, along with refining the information we display about the community.
We knew a layout like this would be difficult to replicate on mobile so instead of just scaling everything down, we decided to create a tailored experience that utilizes familiar gestures and layouts from popular apps like TikTok and Instagram.
One of the greatest aspects of the NFT space is the communities behind each project. We wanted to create an experience that highlights these vibrant communities.
To do this, we created a module that displays real-time activity from asset holders within that collection. This allows users to see what people from that collection are buying, selling, minting, or trading. We believe this will be an incredibly powerful tool that will allow users to make informed decisions about the communities they are looking to join or are already a part of.
Making this page highly interactive was a major part of this direction. We wanted this page to always feel alive and active as if it was a live stream. We took a lot of inspiration from streaming services such as Twitch and YouTube to build an interface that gives the user that same feeling.
While viewing a collectible, the main content area acts as a stage for notable events that happen to this asset or collection and will change depending on that activity.
Below is an example of how the interface reacts if the floor for this collection goes up or down.
