Before starting this project, I met with the team to understand the 'look' they wanted: something bold, modern, and futuristic. I put together four different mood boards, each with its own unique style. The team appreciated all the directions presented, but ultimately, we chose a mix of options 2 and 4.
Once we agreed on a design direction, I crafted a wordmark and logo for the brand that embodied the team's desire for a bold look. I used a heavy font with custom alterations for the wordmark, and cleverly incorporated a visual representation of 'drop' into the logo with a downward arrow within the 'M'.
For the primary typeface, I went with Shapiro as it offers many variants and allows for a lot of flexibility across the design system and brand.
The team wanted a straightforward, minimal, yet bold and bright color palette. I selected colors that, when combined, emit a futuristic neon vibe and complement each other effectively.
One of the best parts of this project was creating the "Metadrop Rock." The team wanted some sort of "gem" or "mysterious item" that they could use in their branding as somewhat of a mascot. I created this gem in Cinema 4D and rendered it out using Octane. This shiny rock has since become one of the most identifiable parts of the Metadrop brand and community.
Along with branding design, the team had also asked me to create a landing page using our new styles so they could release a teaser for their community. Below is one of the final landing page designs, along with a few other variations during the exploration phase.
